First Service
On the first service, members will receive their 5-gallon buckets to start composting. After your first service, WasteNot will pick up your bucket on your scheduled service date and drop a completely clean and sanitized receptacle for you to use until your next service.

If it has ever been alive, you can compost it! All food scraps (even meat and bones!) as well as your yard waste can be safely composted in your WasteNot receptacle of choice.

Pizza boxes, paper towels, and any 100% paper products are compostable with WasteNot.

Look for “certified compostable” when looking to see if your plastic products can be composted. Avoid composting products that advertise as “biodegradable” or “plant-based” without explicit mention of compostable certification.

On your first service, you will receive a 5-gallon buckets to start composting. After your first service, WasteNot will pick up your bucket on your scheduled service date and drop a completely clean and sanitized receptacle for you to use until your next service.

Generally speaking, “if it grows, it goes!” Anything once living can be composted. At WasteNot, we are able to accept a wide variety of items due to being on the industrial level. To view what’s compostable with WasteNot, check out our guide here.

Just a few things! Pet droppings, excessive liquids, plastics (including wrappers), metals, and glass can’t be composted.

No! Contrary to popular belief, separating your compostable waste reduces odors. Additionally, you receive a clean receptacle on every WasteNot scheduled service day. This prevents residues (which contribute to odor) from building up. If placing more odorous items into your bucket rather than freezing, you may add odor neutralizers such as coffee grounds, citrus, or mint.

For Lake Forest residents, buckets will be serviced at the end of your driveway. If you have any questions about where to leave your bucket out for service, please email our support team at hq@wastenotcompost.com.

WasteNot buckets should be in your designated bucket location before/by 6:30am on scheduled service days. If you’re not a morning person, simply place it out the night before!

Skipping service is easy! Simply log in to your WasteNot member account to contact support or email support at hq@wastenotcompost.com. You must request to skip service at least two (2) business days prior to the service date that you would like to skip.
