Garden Partner Program Success

WasteNot staff with BUILD Chicago representative

WasteNot’s bi-annual finished compost program had a twist this spring - a partnership with two local nonprofits! These Community Garden Partners each received free compost given by our residential members.

One of our partners, Global Gardens, works to improve urban access to fresh vegetables while providing opportunities for newly arrived refugee families. Working in the gardens gives these families a supplemental income, food security, and economic opportunities in their new home in Chicago! This spring, Global Gardens received 1,584 pounds of finished compost from WasteNot members!

Our other partner, BUILD Chicago, supports urban youth in Chicago to help them build hope, resilience, and a path to a promising future. BUILD’s Austin Grown Program gives Chicago youths the confidence to plant and grow food, as well as maintain the farm’s shed and greenhouse. This spring, BUILD Chicago received 912 pounds of finished compost from WasteNot members!

An exciting update from Global Gardens as they begin using their finished compost! You can watch the full video from Global Gardens here.
