TEXTILE COLLECTION

Having access to adequate clothing is a basic human need — and yet 1 in 2 children in Chicagoland live in low income and homeless situations and are at risk of clothing insecurity.

With this Textile Collection, WasteNot is looking to change that. We have partnered with Cradles to Crayons, a nonprofit organization working to address clothing insecurity across the nation. All collected textile items in good quality will be directed to someone in need, and any items that are not up to our quality standards will be recycled.

Together, we’re clothing families in need while reducing textile pollution!

ABOUT OUR TEXTILE COLLECTION:

  • How It Works: You can find our Textile Collection in the WasteNot Shop! If you’re interested, simply purchase the Textile Collection product and you’ll receive a bag on your next service date. Fill it up and place it outside with your compost bin.

  • What’s Accepted: WasteNot will be accepting all textile pieces in this collection. This includes clothing and shoes of all sizes, as well as blankets, towels, etc. You can find our full list of accepted items here.

  • Where It Goes: Your new or gently-used items will be gifted to local Chicagoans in need, coordinated by Cradles to Crayons. Following their motto of “Quality = Dignity,” only good quality pieces will be distributed. Anything that does not meet quality standards will instead be recycled, reducing textile waste going to landfills!

  • Important Notes:

    • Featured collection items: winter clothing, new socks/underwear, and boys’ pants

    • All collected items will either be directed to a person in need or recycled.

ABOUT OUR PARTNER:

Cradles to Crayons is a nonprofit that has been fighting clothing insecurity since 2002. Started in Boston, they have grown into a nation-wide organization. Cradles to Crayons now operates in Massachusetts, Philadelphia, New York City, and Chicago, and has distributed nearly 6 million packages to those in need! Watch the video below to see what happens to your items after WasteNot brings them to Cradles to Crayons.
